Obituary for Janet Dempsey (Johns)

Janet Dempsey (Johns)
Dempsey
Janet (Johns)

Age 80, of Plum, on Monday, January 1, 2018. Loving wife of 61 years to the late Jack Dempsey; mother of Debbie (Bill) Hackwelder and Jackie (David Wallace) Dempsey; grandmother of Julie (Jim) Carson and Jim (Sara) Hackwelder; great-grandmother of Jacob Carson and Collin Hackwelder; sister of Chuck Johns; sister-in-law of Sherry Harrell and Michael (Dianna) McGraw. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Janet was Jack’s “Cupcake” from the age of 14 when they used to meet up at neighborhood dances to jitterbug the night away. Together, they created a beautiful, close-knit family, ran a successful business (Jack Dempsey Plumbing), and helped countless people in recovery programs. As a friend of Lois W. for over 40 years, she inspired and comforted many, both around her kitchen table and at conferences across the U.S. and abroad. She loved to work with her hands and make gifts for people, whether it was crocheting, needlepoint, or woodworking. She could cook you up some dinner, mend your skinned knee, or get up on your roof and replace your shingles. She did it all. A feisty, spunky, hilarious, warm, loving woman who had a big laugh and an even bigger heart, Janet was the glue that held her family together and a loyal friend to many. She will be missed by all. Friends received, Saturday and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd./Roth Chapel, 7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Road) Penn Hills, where a Service will be held, Monday, 11:00 am.
