Age 83, of Unity, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, June 3, 2017. Wife of the late William Bennett Mathos; Mother of Dr. Kimberly Mathos (Francis Lokar), and Dr. Thor (Dr. Julia) Mathos; Grandmother of Kaelin, Lauren (Levi), Matthew (Alexandra), and Sierra. Barbara graduated from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and went on to teach at Penn Hills Jr. High School for several years. She was a very talented artist with much appreciation for nature and color. In addition to her passion for art she thoroughly enjoyed square dancing. Although Barbara was accomplished in many things, she viewed being a mother and grandmother as her greatest accomplishment. She encouraged and inspired her children and grandchildren to excel in whatever they chose to do. Barbara made a lasting impact on everyone she met and touched the lives of so many people. She was a genuinely kind-hearted person who never hesitated to help those less fortunate. She will always be remembered for her kindness, uplifting spirit, and undaunting positive outlook despite any obstacle she encountered. Friends received, Thursday, 6-8 p.m, and Friday 1-4 and 6-9 p.m., at Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd./Roth Chapel, 7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Road) Penn Hills. A Service will be held, Saturday, 11 a.m., in Unity Community Church.
