Community Service

Every employee of Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd. is involved in our community in some way or another. Whether through our memberships in our respected churches, civic organizations or extra-curricular activities, we are active participants in the Penn Hills and Plum Boro Communities.

Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd. is proud to be an affiliate of the Lofty Oaks Association. For each service we conduct, we request that a tree be planted in the state of Pennsylvania in memory of the deceased. Since our partnership into the Lofty Oaks Association in 1992, over 5000 trees have been planted.

At Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd. our services are not completed after the deceased is buried or cremated. We have listings of all of the support groups that are held in the area, so that your schedule can be accommodated.

Another program that we offer is the Christmas Memorial Program. We understand that the holidays can be a trying and stressful time of year for someone who has lost a loved one. Therefore, since 1995, Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd. has hosted the Memorial Program at the beginning of December. During our program, the speaker offers ideas and insights as to how to best handle the up-coming Yuletide Season. We conclude our program with a Candle Lighting Ceremony in which every person who had died in the previous year is remembered. This candle on which is the deceased name and date of death is presented to the family after the program to take home and cherish. This Light of Hope is intended to shine brightly throughout the holiday season.

As part of our continued service our Roth Chapel houses our Grief Library. There is quite a selection of books, pamphlets, videos and even audio-tapes dealing with the topic of grief, loss and bereavement. Some of the literature is for generalized grief while others focus on specific types of grief and loss, such as suicide, AIDS, loss of a child and so forth. Our library is open to the public and continues to grow.
